Travel to Kovalam

Kovalam is a tiny hamlet near Tiruvananthapuram. Little sleepy village of Kovalam attracts tourists from all over the world for its natural beauty. Kovalam was made famous by the Maharaja of Travencore in early 20th century.


One of the best things about Kovalam is its easy accessibility.

Nearest railhead is Thiruvananthapuram, which is about 16 kilometers from Kovalam. One can take a taxi from railway station itself. It would cost you around 400 rupees.

There is an international airport also in Thiruvananthapuram. From Airport to Kovalam Taxi would charge you anywhere between 500 to 800 rupees.

Kovalam a small fishing village has an mesmerising mix of rocky and sandy beach. It is an amazing sight to see fishermen struggling to keep their boats on course struggling with the waves which turn violent after hitting the rocks. Unlike the nature of Arabian sea, it is very rough in Kovalam.


In Kovalam one can take a bath in the sea without fear. There are many life-guards who would not let you go to the dangerous areas.

Though there are many luxurious hotels to stay around the beach, it is advisable to book the hotels in advance.

There are many restaurants along with the beach who serve all foods. One can sit on the beach side eating joint in the evening and enjoy people playing with the waves.


Somethings you should not miss in Kovalam are; Getting a body massage, watching Fisherment pull their nets in the morning and a local flea market right next to lighthouse on the beach.

Nearby places worth visiting are a Rock temple made by drilling a huge rock and the Sanghumughom, the huge sculpture of a 'Nymph' made by the famous sculpture Kanai Kunjiraman and a star-shaped restaurent.

Local mode of transport is an auto and they charge 10 rupees extra for going uphill.
